1940's Vintage Make-Up and Photography

Whoa whoa! Long time no bloggy bloggy! Sorry about that. Such a awesomely busy month. Wanted to quickly take a moment to show you what I have been up to. We have been wanting to experiment with vintage make up and lighting in the studio and this week we had a lovely actress, Kimberly Sherbach to help us capture this very thing. I would LOVE to have a division in our company for the very popular boudoir type of shoot, but tempered with a classy vintage setting. But in the meantime we will keep close up and clothing on. This is what I could see our boudoir portraits looking like:
Those a pictures of real Ziegfeld Follies girls! Aren't they divine?

Well here is what else is divine.... darling Kim. She was so patient and is just a doll in every way. Now doesn't she look like one too?
What do you think? Oh and by the way, I used all Arbonne skincare and make up
Beautiful right? Radiant. I am very inspired. :)

Creative friends Creating - The Gawky Author

OMG I'm a star. Wait let me rephrase that. My friend is a star and therefore has made me a star.
Best friend, sister from another mister, comedienne, actress, and writer
has written and published her first book,

A phase that I seem to be barely coming out of myself.
I was thrilled and honored to be a part of the books final chapter...no really that's me!

Hi, Margot. I'm Adriana. The beginning of a beautiful friendship.
She didn't even change my name! That means we're still friends.
Here is a picture of Margot and me at Ithaca College where we met and where her story ends. This proves just how strange, awkward and plain weird we were.

I am telling you right now this was NOT Halloween. Just an average get together. We were VERY committed to boas and wide brimmed hats.
At the time I was a total musical theater opera NERD.  At the TIME!!  (I have to hurry up and write this so I can go watch the Tony Awards) No really, my bedding had musical notes and a LOT of G Clefs and I'm pretty sure  I had a poster of a cat on a piano holding a flute on my dorm room wall.

But I think both of us celebrate "gawky".  We love and embrace that we have these quirky girls living inside of career driven, successful ladies who finally know how to accessorize and handle ourselves in public. ish.
Margot's wedding with our other sisters. See? We are sooo much more sensible now.
Wait...
On Thursday I was able to attend her book release at the Upright Citizens Brigade and sit in awe of her incredible storytelling talents again.

I am so cool. I am in a book. She is way cooler. She wrote it. My friends are brilliant. I can't take it.

Two Memorial Day Summer Treats

C'mon summer you got this.
Last week it was so cold I took out my down filled coat cursing under my breath. I hate complaining about the weather but this spring has been...lackluster to say the least. What cures the "spring that's really like winter continued" blues?

Kabobs on the grill
and
Strawberry Avocado Salsa
of course! Duh.

Kabobs. This is fairly self explanatory...I have posted mostly for inspiration and to entice summer to make it's appearance in Jersey.
Marinade meat and seafood for at least two hours before grilling.
Once fully marinated skewer veggies on sticks (that have been soaking on water), baste with oil and vinegar, salt and pepper to taste and slap them on the grill. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.

Strawberry Avocado Salsa
This is soooo delicious and sooooo refreshing and sooooo easy to make.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups strawberries, stemmed and diced
1 avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced
1/4 cup red onion, diced
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
3 Tbsp. lime juice
1 tsp. agave nectar
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS
1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Toss gently, season to taste with salt and pepper, and serve.

Serves 4.

Happy memorial day!! Hope everyone had a great time grilling their own treats while remembering our nation's military.

Actors Equity Turns 100

Another centennial today with the Actors Equity Association!
I became a member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA thorough my work on All My Children, and As the World Turns. I have always been so thankful for the great working conditions these Actor's Unions have given us over many many years and for being a part of this fabulous actor's community in New York City.
Happy birthday AEA!!

Live for the Moment In the Moment

In honor of the American Cancer Society's 100 Anniversary I would like to direct you to a video that had gone viral over the past couple of months. Many of you may have already seen it, but if you haven't I dare you not to be uplifted, inspired, and lean to living IN the moment as much as possible. (it is still freezing in NYC so I am very bitter-pun intended-I also need to watch this again to put away my petty complaints.)

Zach Sobiech, at the age of 14, found out he had a rare form of terminal cancer. He made the absolute best of his last years on earth and basically became a rockstar. Before you watch this get under a blanket and have a box of tissues easily accessible.

Here is the version of the song Zach wrote with a couple of well known faces:

Creative Friends Creating-The Choreographer

My very talented friend Dylan has created a work of art with his piece "GO TO" that he is submitting to Dance Media Magazine for the ACE Award in choreography. I met Dylan doing this show (I have so many creative friends) and we had a spectacular seven days bonding over Phillip Phillips, minutiae and caramel vodka. Don't ask. Just know it was a good time and this guy is quality. (He's the one photo-bombing my Gypsy picture. See? Quality.) I had the pleasure of helping him with an extra camera to create his submission and when you click on the link below you can see he is bound for So You Think You Can Dance. ;) Watching it live was of course even better and I can't wait to see where this leads him!

Dancers awaiting instruction.

This piece is so beautiful so please take a moment to view his work and vote
Thank you and enjoy!

Lean to the Light from your Mama

Happy Mother's Day to all!
Lean to Light's advice today is: lean to the light your mama gave you. You may not see it or feel it all the time, but it's there, it's always there, and she gave you breath and life so give thanks. The end.
My other piece of advice? Do something really cool and memorable with her one on one. That may be a bit more challenging depending on where you live, but with the internet, virtual sharing is getting more and more common so do it!
I was lucky enough to have my mama in town so I was able to have one on one QT on the Boardwalk,
through the 9/11 memorial
Where's MoLo?
but the highlight and her main request was to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
Best perspective I could get on my iphone of the expansiveness up there
The Brooklyn Bridge is Bootylicious

I leave you with
Tina Fey's a Mother's Prayer for her child:

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.
May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.
Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.
And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.
And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.”

Viva, I mean, LIVE Las Vegas

Doesn't Viva mean live? Vegas is LIVING with a capital LIVE.
I want to say it was one of my best weeks ever so I will. This was one of the best weeks ever!!!
I went to Vegas for my first Arbonne Global Training Conference and it was so inspiring. I was literally surrounded by thousands of women wanting to do better for this world, for their health and their families' well being. I have never worked for any company where so much positivity and radiance is fueling it's core energy. Talk about a company truly leaning to light. It's a theme people I have to stick with it.

I haven't been to Vegas since I was oh, 14 and even though that was only a few years ago......ahem ahem....the Days Inn we stayed at across from the Mirage is now Venice. Yup! Venice.

This didn't exist then:

And neither did this:

My girl Kaleigh and I ate at the base of this icon at the Parisian's Mon Ami Gabi which is kinda cool because one of my best memories with her is our magical day in Paris!!
Then

Now
They have a FULL gluten free menu with French Onion Soup!!! Oooh lala!!! C'est manifique!!
While I was there taking in the convention, I was also able to see Miss Kaleigh premiere in Jubilee!!! Well she premiered last month but I pretended like it was opening night. She is also so inspirational because last year at this time she was merely dreaming of being a Jubilee showgirl, but then she auditioned, got all her papaerwork together for her visa, got the job, moved from Australia,
and a mere ONE year later she has made her dreams come true!! Just incredible. My girlfriend Taryn from another ship contract was also in the show! So great to see these talented girls.

Kaleigh also found an apartment with this as it's back yard:
and this as the entrance to the club house. I mean who has a club house?? She does.

 Yeah not too shabby.
We of course toured the town a bit in the time we had left....here are some pictures from brunch at the Palms and the interiors of a couple incredible hotels that don't fail to disappoint.

For even MORE on our adventures check out Kaleigh's blog, very appropriately named

The Naughty Pink Ballerina

I also got to meet some other performers and see great friends and check out real estate. It was all...just....fabulous. Dare I say Vegas may be on my radar now of awesome places to live? Not moving yet but a girl can dream....
