MORE Sports!

What what whaaaat you say? There is more??? By this point you must be completely blown away by my secret athletic side. After reading my sports blog Mumsy Lomysh reminded me that there was more to it and sent proof. She says she remembers the excuse of me not wanting to play anymore was because I didn't want to break a nail. Typical.
Here is a picture with my maid of honor from my first, and only semester playing volleyball. I was truly beyond terrible at it. Those knee pads were worthless as I don't think I would make that much effort to really "go for" the ball. Oh and in case you were wondering, that is a massive maroon scrunchie on the back of my head that I think was there more as a fashion statement than it's practical use of pulling my hair back to see whatever the heck we were supposed to be doing on the court.
I also wanted to post this because Jaimee is wishing us all a happy fall with the pumpkin she's holding.

Sports. No really. Sports!!!

No really, I enjoy many many things outside of doing musical theater, traveling (to see my friends do musical theater) and going out (with people who do musical theater).

The time has come to prove that I am interested in sports. No really! I don't have much proof of this as I cannot catch or throw a ball, pass a ball, hit a ball with a stick, or stick my fingers in a ball and roll it down a lane to hit 10 pins. I actually had a nervous breakdown bowling once and makes me really appreciate those new bowling alleys in New York that make you feel more like you're clubbing.  Lately I have been trying some waspy sports like golf, tennis, yoga and walking briskly and enjoying them tremendously.
But the position I like to play the most in any sport is that of a the enthusiastic spectator.

Superbowl XXV-January 27, 1991. A twelve year old me clings to the last ounce of hope she has watches Scott Norwood kick a wide right field goal to lose to the New York Giants. There is a Wikipedia page dedicated to this moment. No really.
After the game I got an acute sinus infection for two weeks and was bed ridden. No really.

Next year rolled around and of course we had high hopes, again. This time I thought, "If I wear my sweatshirt from last year along with Bills bobble earrings, paint Go Bills!! on my nails, hold my AFC Championship pennant in my hand the whole game, sit in my Bills bean bag chair and wear appropriate stage make up we will win!!!"
My chickenfinger was even in the shape of a Buffalo. It was a sign.
But we lost again. And again. And again.
Check out the rolled suspender jeans and scrunchie socks. Maybe that's why we lost.
Fall 1992. I auditioned for and made the JV basketball cheerleader squad. I'm an athlete! No really! It was the only thing I could get cast in, I mean, wait I don't even know the word for getting the part on a sports team. Let me ask my husband.
He says drafted. Like in the army? Ok I was drafted onto the JV basketball cheering team, yet again a "spectator sport." The only thing I got a letter in was a sport where I got to wear a super cute costume and execute choreographed dances in perfect unison.

Next season I was told by my voice teacher that if I didn't quit immediately I would never be able to hit a high C. I immediately quit.

The reason I bring all of this up is the Buffalo Bills are currently the only NFL team undefeated in the AFC for the first time since before the internet was invented so it inspired me to blog about it. No really! I did not have the game on my TV because I now live in Giants land (BOOOO) and had to watch the score change on my laptop with my heart racing. It reminded me of when I had to listen on my radio to the high drama biggest comeback performance starring Frank Reich, Bruce Smith and Andre Reed and directed by Marv Levy. Yet again, we are legends on Wiki.

People may say I'm a fair weather fan, but to that I say, I am a multi level actress devoted to any and all projects I take on and the emotional strain (and infections) that come post loss are just too much for me to bear!!!!!!!
But I still hope that this year or ANY year they do a Susan Lucci and finally win their Emmy.
I mean Superbowl trophy.

"All My Children"

It's the end of an era. I have vivid memories of my mom watching AMC growing up-she definitely most definitely had a crush on "Tad" as did all women of the 80's.  I then had the pleasure of working on the show for many years when it was still in New York. I totally bawled watching the last episode which either makes me a drama queen or a theater nerd who cries at the final curtain of any show. Let's go with both. Sad to have to say goodbye to a great workplace and New York City staple for many actors over it's 41 year reign.  Here are some of my memories on set...everyone there was so kind and so professional...it really was like a family!
With David Canary
With Jill Larson (If you look closely I am enjoying the sweet relief of pink slippers in between takes.)
With my Mom's crush- TAD! Played by the darling Michael Knight and flanked by actress Julia Tobey
With Cameron Mathison
With Colin Egglesfield

The Jersey Shore - It's Sophisticated

When you google the Jersey Shore THIS is what comes up first. Even the Wikipedia definition that comes up is THIS. So after my day at the shore, I find "this" to be very shamefully misleading.  Let me try to dispel the reality TV media stereotyping now. The Jersey shore is quite picturesque, with beaches, shops and restaurants.
Where you can eat lobster:
an obviously sophisticated activity
Drink sophisticated root beer martinis.
Where dessert is the most sophisticated candy apple you've ever had in your life. (Caramel cookies and cream chocolate with gummy worms. HELLO!!!)
And we even found a sophisticated Italian delicacy shop selling specialty oil and vinegar. Here we see many flavors of balsamic (check out the raspberry one)

but we went away from the Jersey Shore with deeeelish white truffle oil. How sophisticated!
Very sad that we are getting stereotypes from this area from a certain reality TV show. Think about what it would be like to only have the negative aspects of where you grew up shown all over the world on TV and the internet. I felt like I was on Cape Cod beach in an area full of beauty, history and...you guessed it...
sophistication.

Prince Edward Island-I would highly recommend it

Here's the rest. Became addicted to this:
Let me be more be more specific. This ice cream, COWS, is one of the best in the world. Having traveled the world I must agree.
Jason found a Scottish buddy.
Beautiful teahouses...
A bikeride along the northshore...
I am so tough with my fold-out bike.
We ate seafood. LOTS of seafood.

But the highlight of our vacation for me was seeing our best man Greg Barry and his Full Monty... I mean, STAR in The Full Monty at the Charlottetown Festival!   He was amazing, and you really know you are on vacation when you don't have to be at the theater at half hour to curtain.
We also got to see Anne of Green Gables, the Musical and it has made me obsessed with wanting to play Miss Stacey someday. In the meantime I will IMAGINE that I am Anne.

Anne of Green Gables

I don't know about you, but I was raised reading Anne of Green Gables. Unique, intelligent, spunky, full of a vivid imagination, and on a eternal quest for kindred spirits, Anne evokes so many wonderful attributes I do not see often portrayed in young girls on television and the internet today. She was quite literally the "brainchild" of Lucy Maud Montgomery who would say that even though Anne was a work of fiction she felt like Anne was a real girl who walked the island. We who love Anne feel the same, so coming to the inspirational place for all of Ms. Mongomery's books was, as Jason liked to call it, my "coming to Oz" moment.
If you weren't raised with "Anne" the following pictures will be of very little interest. So go read the books and come back! (the Canadian TV mini series is amazing too so check it out!)
The schoolhouse where L.M.Mongomery taught with Anne's slate
The chair where she wrote. The chair where I blog.
Anne's bedroom!
Happy stance at Green Gables where it is so...so... GREEN!
Her house isn't there anymore...but this is right where L.M.Montgomery wrote Anne of Green Gables.
This is the farmhouse that inspired the book.
This is exactly where Miss M got married so Jason and I had to take our anniversary pic for good luck

First time for everything and this time it's...CAMPING!

All I have to say is that camping was very similar to my first experiences with raw fish. I was very apprehensive, but it was actually quite refreshing, and in the end I loved it!
Have to present the tent with a bevel. Can't believe I just posed a pic of myself without make up...but that's part of camping people!! I want to prove to the world how low maintenance I can be. It's like an earthquake in NYC. Recent and rare.
Worth the price of the ticket (only 30 bucks!) and the pitching of a tent when you wake up to this:
We were going to stay two nights here in BEAUTIFUL Camden Hills, Maine, but we unfortunately had to run away as fast as possible from our uninvited guest hurricane Irene.
Crossed a couple of very cool bridges to get to Oh Canada...
to the Prince Edward Island National Forest!!!
Happy stance amidst PEI infamous red rocky coastline. Yet again no make up. I am one with the earth.
Bevel, one hand on hip, and green grassy flowering knolls. The knolls are the best.

Don't worry, I made friends there even on my first night...it might have helped the bonding experience that we were sharing the same space.
My chipmunk friend...
my rabbit friend...
Miss Foxy Lady...
...and a lobster.
